Tips on Applying Eyeliner

JUST ABOUT WOMEN - Just about women (posting by womenomenblog)
For a woman, eyeliner can be one of the greatest cosmetic tools. Even a small amount will give your eyes a sophisticated aura. However, just a tad too much and you’ll end up looking like you’re dressed for Halloween. Here are some tips to help you apply eyeliner to suit your own unique style.

1. Know how you want to look. You can do quite a few things with eyeliner. Go from a natural, daytime style to a more dramatic kohl with smoky black around your eyes. Decide what you want before you begin.

2. Choose your liner color. Pick a color that will look good with your eye color or a plain tone for a simpler look. If you are looking for a nice subtle day color then try soft green or a shade of brown. For dramatic evening looks, try a jewel green shade to accent green eyes, an aqua shade to accent blue eyes or just a basic black.

3. Choose an eyeliner type. Liners are available as liquid pens, pencils, or shadows in a cake that are applied with a separate brush. For beginners it is recommended that you start out slow and use a pencil or a liquid liner, as they are much easier to use.

4. Get the eyeliner ready for use. Eye pencils have to be sharpened on occasion. Once your pencil is sharp, warm it up with a blow dryer or slowly roll between your warm fingertips. There are several different styles to liquid eyeliners, so look at the instructions. The brush must be wet with liner on its tip.

5. Start on the upper lid. Tilt your head backwards and half close your eyes to see into the mirror. For this to work right you need to see the edge of the eyelid, the top of it.

6. Apply the liner. Apply the liner to the corner of your eye closest to your nose. Carefully draw a line along the edge of your eyelid as close as possible to the eyelash. If your hand is a little shaky, rest it on your cheek to get a smooth line.

7. Draw liner on bottom lid. Going from the outer corner of the eye, draw in the lower line. Again, go as close as you can to the edge of your eyelid, just beneath your eyelashes. The line does not have to go all the way across the eye. Stop three-quarters of the way up the lid.

8. Let eyeliner dry. This is extremely important if you're applying liquid liner. You need to let the eyeliner liquid dry for at least half a minute.

9. Smudge the liner (this is optional). To make the line look softer, run a Q-tip along the line you made. Go gently on this until you get the right look.

10. Now do the exact same thing to the other eye.

If you do these steps, you should be able to create a lot of different looks. Simply try new things and put on eyeliner to fit your mood. Have fun!

Tips on Shaving Your Legs

JUST ABOUT WOMEN - Just about women (posting by womenomenblog)
Arguably, the beauty routine that women dislike most is having to shave their legs. It takes a long time, demands agility and can be hazardous if you cut yourself with a dull blade. Removing the hair from your legs doesn't have to be a chore. Using these steps will give you a perfect shave every time.

1. Start with water that is warm. As you shave your legs you should use warm water to in the shower or bath. Wait for the skin and hair to get softer. When hair and skin are cold, you have more potential for cutting yourself or missing spots.

2. It is important to exfoliate. Do not skip over this step if you have dry skin or are even just shaving for first time this summer. When you shower, use loofah or abrasive mitt and scrub it onto your skin in small circles. This is going to ease hairs which tend to grow back into the skin, will take away the dead skin, and make the hair rise sightly for ease of cutting.

3. Rub your legs all over with shaving cream. There are various choices out there. Select a product that is good for dry or sensitive skin, or one that includes a soothing ingredient such as aloe. If you don’t have shaving cream, a creamy body wash will do the trick. Put a thin coat of the cream on your legs from your hip all the way to your feet.

4. Elevate your leg in order to shave your foot. Shave over your toes and the bridge of the foot. You shouldn't have to do this every time you shave, but maybe every 3-4 times. Just decide how often this area needs doing. Be aware that the skin on our feet is thin and can be cut very easily.

5. Put your foot up on something. Through propping your foot up and bending your knee you should be able to reach the whole leg to shave it.

6. Begin at the ankle. In slow, even strokes bring the razor up from your ankle to just under your knee. It is important to do the entire length of the area with one solid stroke. Shift an inch around the leg and repeat. Continue shaving until all hair and shaving cream is eliminated from the entire lower leg.

7. Wash out the razor. Following every two or three strokes, wash the razor under running warm water. The blade can be dulled prematurely and prevent from getting clogged with hair if you rinse frequently.

8. Make sure that you shave your thigh. Begin using a razor for the upper portion of the leg with a stroke above the knee and keep shaving until you reach the top of your thigh. Move all the way around until your thigh is smooth.

9. Knee area. The most difficult area to shave on your body is around the knee. When you are trying to access different areas and different angles it is best to be gentle and shift your leg so you can access the area. Once you have done some strokes, run your fingers over the spot to locate any areas you may have missed.

10. Do all these steps with the other leg.

11. Rinse off with warm water. Rinse off your legs thoroughly after you've shaved all of the hair.

12. Dry. If you have the time, allow your legs to air dry when you get out of the bath or shower. If not, take a towel to gently pat dry the skin. When it comes to skin lotions, rubbing is bad. To avoid breakouts, wait 2 hours or more before applying lotion.

Shaving your legs doesn't have to be something that causes pain. Ensure that the razors and clean and sharp for the best use. After that, shave frequently so your skin is familiar with the ‘abuse of the razor’.

Rh Factor

JUST ABOUT WOMEN - Just about women (posting by womenomenblog)

What is Rh factor?
Every person’s blood is one of four major types. A, B, AB, or O. Blood types are determined by the types of antigens on the blood cells.

Rh describes the factor that is found on the red blood cells of most people. People with the Rh factor are Rh positive, those who do not have the factor are Rh negative. Approximately 85% of the United States population is Rh positive and about 15% is Rh negative. The type we are is determined by our parents just like eye color. The Rh factor does not affect a person’s general health. Rh factor can be determined by a simple blood test which only requires a finger stick.

When is Rh important?

Rh is important when donating blood or receiving a blood transfusion and during pregnancy. Rh negative blood donors are always in demand because Rh negative patients need Rh negative blood. Rh positive patients can receive blood from either Rh positive or Rh negative donors. In pregnancy, Rh is especially important when an Rh negative woman carries an Rh positive fetus.

What if I am Rh negative and pregnant?

If an Rh negative woman is pregnant with an Rh positive fetus, her body will produce antibodies against the fetus’s blood, causing a disease known as the Rh disease. Sensitization to the disease occurs when the woman’s blood is exposed to the fetus’s blood. The antibodies attack and destroy the Rh positive red blood cells of the fetus, a progressive anemia develops and in severe cases, there can be heart failure or even death. This hemolytic disease usually does not affect the first pregnancy, but once a woman has produced antibodies, all future Rh positive pregnancies are at risk. Antibody production can be prevented by giving Rh Immune Globulin (Rhlg or RhoGam).

What is RhoGam and what does it do?

RhoGam is a solution containing Rh antibodies which is injected into the Rh negative mother during pregnancy and just after delivery, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or induced abortion.

Once the antibodies have been given, the immune system sees no need to act and the woman’s body does not make her own antibodies even though Rh positive red blood cells from the fetus got into her bloodstream.

Is protection necessary after each pregnancy?

Yes. With each pregnancy the Rh negative woman has a chance of being exposed to the red blood cells of her fetus. Unless it is known for certain that the fetus is Rh negative, the woman should receive protection. Before birth, miscarriage or induced abortion there is no way of knowing the baby’s Rh type unless both parents are Rh negative.

Is RhoGam Safe?

Yes. RhoGam has an excellent safety record. Before it was made available for general use, it was tested in medical centers around the world. Millions of women have received RhoGam safely and delivered healthy babies. RhoGam is prepared by a process that has not been shown to transmit hepatitis or other infectious diseases.

Rh disease is preventable through this simple injection of Rh Immune Globulin.

Tips for Women Over 50 Who Want to Look 10 Years Younger

JUST ABOUT WOMEN - Just about women (posting by womenomenblog)
Women over 50 can appear at least 10 years younger than they are and are in position to capitalize on their experience and vitality. Why would you want to look and feel younger than you are? It could be vanity, maybe a personal challenge to increase your fitness level, maybe just better health and maybe because you are back on the market as a newly single woman.

Most women will be single for a good portion of their later years. Women who date younger men are referred to as cougars however men have been dating younger women since time began and there is no corresponding term for them. Women should be able to choose who they want to date, and what they want out of life without being referred to in a derogatory way.

I find it interesting that some women in their 50s when approached about starting a skin care routine or using makeup say, “I’m too old to start now.” At 50, we have in most cases at least another 30 years of life left. We are at an age where we have experience, education, money and often, an empty nest. It’s time to really embrace everything life has to offer and do the things we have always put aside because our focus has been on raising a family and working.

Did you know that women, who wear makeup, on average, earn 12% more than women who don’t? When you look good, you feel good and that in turn improves your attitude. I suspect that looking your best improves confidence, which in turn would lead to better on-the-job performance. Purchase a good skin care routine that includes anti-aging products and use it daily. In most cases a quality fragrance-free skin treatment program is safe for even sensitive skin. If you rarely wear color cosmetics take the time to find some that you will be comfortable with. Makeup, that is subtle, will enhance your best features and will make you stand out as someone who cares about their appearance. If you already use color cosmetics you are ahead of the game.

Allot some time in your day to exercise and stretch. Many women these days are active physically and have better health than previous generations. If they do not have a gym membership there are many activities that can tone and firm their physiques while being fun; inline skating, tennis, rock climbing, yoga. I was shocked recently when I took my grandson bowling that it is great activity to firm the gluts and arms.

Clothing choices, in a large way, determine how people see you however it is not necessary to spend lot of money to look good. Reading about clothing trends helps you choose clothing that is fashionable and appropriate for your lifestyle. Whether it is for pleasure or work, choose separates that allow you to mix and match using a couple of basic colors with a few accent colors thrown in. If everything in your closet co-ordinates, dressing in the morning is easy. That will eliminate the “I have nothing to wear syndrome.”

As women in our 50s we are a powerful force in our communities, our work place and our families. Take time for yourself! It energizes you and as Steven Covey believes, it “sharpens the saw.” By deciding to take charge of your appearance, fitness, health, and attitude you open doors that you may have thought closed for you.

JUST ABOUT WOMEN - Just about women (posting by womenomenblog)
Living a healthy and fit lifestyle is important for long life and longevity. Women should always stay fit and healthy because they are more likely to catch diseases than men. Living a healthy life is not just about following a healthy diet and maintaining the perfect weight. There are many aspects of living that women must maintain in order to be in good physical and mental state. These aspects are:

Staying healthy and physically fit at any age begins just by eating the right kind of food, maintaining the proper body weight, and doing a regular schedule of physical fitness. Cancer risks are greatly prevented once a healthy diet and proper exercise routine is followed. Aside from the cancer threat, heart disease risks are also minimized. In order to stay healthy and fit, women must always do the following.

* Have regular visits to their gynecologists. They should have annual visits once they turn 18 and have annual Pap smears. Pap smear is a screening tool for cancer.

* Women must also have mammograms in order to check the health of their breasts.

* Take calcium supplements. This can prevent almost all pre-menstrual symptoms and osteoporosis after menopause. Calcium also strengthens the teeth so that you can have a healthier smile.

* Also take folic acid to reduce any birth defects, especially when women are pregnant. Pregnant women must live healthy because they are always in a risky situation. They not only put their life at danger, but the baby's life too.

* Take vitamin E every day to protect the cardiovascular and immune system. This can also improve the skin and make it shine each day. Women who take vitamin E every day are always glowing with life.

* Regularly make visits to the dentist to maintain healthy teeth and a beautiful smile. Optimum oral health should always be maintained. You do not want to develop halitosis.

* Exercise daily for at least 20 minutes. A nice walk will always do and insert this in your daily routine. Walk instead of using the car if it's just a short distance to where you are going.

* Drink several glasses of water a day to rehydrate the skin and flush out any impurities. Add more glasses if the day is hot to refurbish the moisture lost through sweating.

* Follow a healthy eating lifestyle and strictly stick to it.

* Sleep well each night.

The Best Foods for Women

JUST ABOUT WOMEN - Just about women (posting by womenomenblog)
Each and every woman should bear in mind that what you eat would clearly show up in your physical appearance. Not only are you accountable for what you eat, but you are as well accountable for the things you do. You should avoid alcoholic drinks, smoking cigarettes, and other vices that would do harm to your health. Staying positive and getting a good night's rest does wonders for you physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Reality of Aging Women

Women are fragile and they are prone to illness especially as they age. There are a few ways to slow the aging process. You need to always remember that you do not have to feel sad about getting old. How you feel deep inside is what should matter to you. No matter how many lines are showing up on your face, what matters is that they are happy smiles. Women are more prone to suffer the effects of the fluctuation of their hormones. Most women encounter what is known as the menopausal period. For the teenagers, there is the influence of peer pressure as well.

Women who are in their forties are usually more prone to have illnesses due to their hormonal changes than the younger women. Women should look into their health as a priority. Eating healthy food would make you look and feel younger. Not only will you look good when you are on a healthy diet, but physically you would be in a great shape and feel great.

Recommended Food for Women

To slow down the aging process, you should indulge in foods rich in antioxidants such as kidney beans, blue berries, plums, strawberries, artichokes, blackberries, pecans, cherries, honey, and apples. Not only do these foods contain anti aging properties but they also lessen the risk for cardiovascular diseases, cancer, stroke, diabetes and Alzheimer's disease.

In order to improve your bone health, you should eat leafy greens, sesame seeds, beans, low fat yogurt, tofu, and eggs. Bear in mind that women are more prone to bone degradation that would eventually lead to osteoporosis in their later years.

To prevent and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, you should have canola oil, skinless poultry, egg substitutes, cabbage, raspberries, grapes, and onions in your diet.

To keep your skin looking young and healthy, you should have a hearty meal with avocados, green tea, carrots, spinach, cantaloupe, citrus fruits, bananas, tomatoes, sunflower seeds, hazel nuts, olives, Brazil nuts, cottage cheese, and walnuts.

Being Healthy Inside and Out

The health needs of women range from extra iron during their childbearing years to calcium and vitamin D for bone health. In order to achieve the overall good health any woman would want, you should have flax seed, kale, pumpkin, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, dark meat, broccoli, salmon, mangoes, figs, and kiwi as part of your diet to help you stay healthy.

In order to stay healthy, you should always remember that you have to feel good with yourself inside and out.
